John Wooden has a quote that says, “You can’t live a perfect day without doing something for someone who will never be able to repay you.” Your day CAN’T be perfect unless you do something for another person who won’t repay you. I love it.

That mentality is at the CORE of community engagement inside my firm, so much that we branded light blue shirts with Coach Wooden’s quote on the back. You see our logo on the front, along with the notice that right now, or better said anytime we have this shirt on, we’re being intentional about improving our community.

And I think you should do it too.

You should rip off this idea, design a shirt just like ours and give one to every employee and client who works in the community alongside you. It’s a special reminder to them about what’s important to your firm. It’s also a literal walking billboard inside the organizations you volunteer at; you’re reminding them who you are.
